On the days I’m feeling most empty and broken, I remember the woman who reached out to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment.
The one whose touch He felt amidst the jostling crowd.
The one He stopped to not just look at, but to truly see.
The one He called “daughter.”
And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
Luke 43-48 (ESV)
Friend, can you feel the love radiating from this passage? Can you feel the depth of compassion He holds for His children?
He calls us daughter. And then he calls us healed.
Saved. Rescued. Delivered.
This heaviness that you’re carrying? These feelings of failure and brokenness. Of insignificance of loneliness. Of desperation or fear. Bring it to the cross. To the One who stops to see us as we are. To the One who restores.
Reach out. Touch the hem of His garment. Grab hold of the One who calls us His.
Because, sweet friend, in Him, we are seen.
But better still? We are made whole.
